Cheltenham Spa is located in the Cotswolds between South West England and the West Midlands about 100 miles (160 Km) or a two hour drive from London. Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Birmingham, Coventry, Oxford and Stratford-Upon-Avon are within about one hours drive.

The history of Cheltenham is explored briefly at www.cheltweb.co.uk/history.htm. It details Cheltenham's rise from obscurity in 1716 when the Spa was discovered

The towns two major employeers are GCHQ and Eagle Star. GCHQ are currently in the process of moving to their new building known oficially as the NAP (new accomodation project) and locally as the donught and Eagle Star currently occupy the landmark Eagle Star Building

The 1991 census shows Cheltenham with a population of just over 100,000. Additional figures of interest are availbale from the cheltenhamtownship.org website. The population figures on this site seem to be much smaller than offical figures, and so I can only assume the estimates are for a smaller area.
